Circulation

The registered users of the Main Library can either use its collections on-site or borrow them.

  1. On-site circulation

All users get access to the Library collections in the Library reading rooms.

The retrieval of the requested titles should start in the online library catalog.

  1. Books and journals in the open stacks are directly available to all users.
  2. The collections from the closed stacks are available on request (the request form should be handed to the librarian on duty or filled and sent online). The user has to present a valid ID Card to pick up the requested publications.

MA and PhD theses are available on special conditions and may be accessed by:

  • a. the University students – with a written consent of their supervisor (see the form)
  • b. the non-University students – with a written consent of their supervisor and the supervisor of the author of the work in question (see the form)
  • other persons – in justified cases – with a written consent of the supervisor of the author of the work in question (see the form)
  • the above-mentioned restrictions are waived for the academic staff of the universities and other research institutions and the postgraduates.

  1. Loans

The Library collections may be borrowed by the users with valid Library accounts (see the tab „Setting up a Library account”) and the libraries (see the tab „Interlibrary loans”).

The University academic staff may borrow from:

  1. The Main Reading Room – max. 5 items per 6 months each.
  2. The Student Loan Desk – max. 5 items per 30 days each.
  3. The Fiction Loan Desk – max. 3 items per 30 days each.

If the return date expires, the account is blocked and the fee is added to the account.

The University non-academic staff, the University postgraduates and retired University staff may borrow from:

  1. The Main Reading Room – max. 5 items per 30 days each.
  2. The Student Loan Desk – max. 5 items per 30 days each.
  3. The Fiction Loan Desk – max. 3 items per 30 days each.

If the return date expires, the account is blocked and the fee is added to the account.

The students may borrow from:

  1. The Student Loan Desk – max. 5 items per 30 days each.
  2. The short-term loan desk (self-service book loan device in the Didactic Reading Room) – max. 2 items per 24 hours each.
  3. The Fiction Loan Desk – max. 3 items per 30 days each.

If the return date expires, the account is blocked and the fee is added to the account.

 Postgraduate students may borrow from:

  1. The Student Loan Desk – max. 5 items per 30 days each.

If the return date expires, the account is blocked and the fee is added to the account.

In order to borrow any items from the Library the users must present valid ID Cards (students and postgraduates) or valid Library ID Cards (other users).

The return dates of the items may be prolonged at the Student Loan Desk and Fiction Loan Desk unless the items are booked by other users.

In order to borrow books from the Student Loan Desk the users have to request them via their online catalog account.

The items currently on loan may be booked – they will be available when returned and the user will receive an e-mail message with the pick-up date.

Note: some collections are non-circulating items, that is, they are available on-site only.
